Following more than 30 years in sports-entertainment, Gene Okerlund became one of, if not the most recognisable announcers in the history. In 1984, Mean Gene came to WWE and became the lead locker room interviewer and also provided ringside commentary and hosted several shows, including All-American Wrestling, Tuesday Night Titans, Wrestling Challenge and Prime Time Wrestling. He also had the honour of singing “The Star-Spangled Banner” at the original WrestleMania. In the same decade, Gene even stepped into the ring on one unforgettable occasion, teaming with Hulk Hogan to defeat Mr. Fuji and George "The Animal" Steele. Fondly remembered by WWE fans of all generations for his distinct voice and interviewing style, Gene became a WWE Hall of Famer in 2006.
